The protection of endangered species has long been a pressing issue; however, it often remains distant from everyday human experience, resulting in limited empathy and insufficient awareness of ecological crises. This study takes the African Great Migration—one of the most iconic ecological events—as its point of departure, selecting wildebeests, crocodiles, lions, and giraffes as representative species. We developed a first-person, multi-sensory, interactive virtual reality (VR) game that allows players to embody these animals’ perspectives. Drawing upon post-anthropocentric narrative design and embodied cognition theory, we designed a quadrupedal cycling interaction system that integrates olfactory stimuli, wind-field simulation, and VR technologies. This approach not only enhances players’ sense of immersion and identification with non-human life, but also facilitates a deeper understanding of the challenges animals face under human influence. Ultimately, the study demonstrates how immersive interaction design can improve the absorption and transformation of knowledge related to ecological conservation.
